Part of a group of negatives taken in August of 1965 of a historical marker that commemorates the Arkansas marble in Washington's monument taken by Beller and Harp. Bros. from this hill in 1836. The marker was erected in 1954 by the Newton County History Society, including W.F. Lackey, president, and Wanda Hichman, secretary. The deposit is located near Marble Falls, Newton County, Arkansas along Arkansas Highway 7. Marker reads, "This marker commemorates the Arkansas marble in Washington's monument taken by Beller and Harp bros. from this hill in 1836. This marker erected 1954 by Newton Co. History Society ̲W.F. Lackey, Pres., Manda Hickman (1904-1970), Sec."
